Io Active Speaker
Electronic User Guide
Congratulations on your purchase of the Mission Io. This product is designed to be intuitive to setup and operate, and to provide many years of trouble free service. However, we recommend that you take a few moments to read through this User Guide in order to get the best possible experience with your new speaker.
Io is a full range amplified guitar speaker designed to provide a light weight monitoring solution for use with modelers. Using the latest technology in class D amplification, digital signal processing, and Neodymium drivers, Io provides similar features to much larger and heavier speakers. The light weight, and compact size allow for easy transport.
Io can be used with most modeling amps as well as other line level outputs such as electronic keyboards, mixers, pre-amplifiers, and media players. Setup is quick and easy with just an XLR input connection and a single level control knob. All other functions are handled automatically by the internal software.
Io must be connected to AC power and switched on to operate. It cannot be used connected to an external power amplifier as a passive speaker.
All systems ship from the factory with a US power cable included. If the original ex-factory destination country is outside the US, an additional country specific power cable is also included. Use only approved cables to connect to AC power. Replacement cables are available from Mission Engineering.
The AC input power setting is preset in the factory for the original destination country. If using in a country with different AC power supply voltage, use the selector below the power switch to select the correct AC input voltage. If you are not sure of the correct voltage, contact Mission Engineering Support before using this product.
Io is a powered (active) speaker with its own internal 450W power amplifier. Io’s input should be connected to a line level output only. This could be a line output from a modeler or pre-amplifier, a monitor output from a mixing desk, or a line output from an electronic keyboard for example.
NEVER connect the Io’s audio inputs to an external power level source such as speaker outputs from external power amplifier or guitar tube amplifier. Connecting external power amplifiers may result in serious damage to Io and other equipment, and/or personal injury. Always ensure AC power is switched off when making connections.
Connect a mono line level output from a modeler or similar device to the connector marked XLR INPUT 1 on the rear panel of the Io. If 1/4″ outputs only are available on your device, use a suitable 1/4″ to XLR cable or adapter.
A balanced connection will exist when connecting to a balanced output with a suitable cable. If a balanced output is not available, the input can be connected to a single ended output using a suitable cable or adapter.
Line level outputs from devices such as mixing desks, media players, tape and digital recorders, etc may be connected to the Left RCA input. Io is a mono device and the left RCA input only is active. Stereo inputs should be bridged to mono when connecting to the left RCA input. The right RCA input is unused in this model.
After all connections have been made, turn the Master Volume control fully counter clockwise to the minimum position. Push the red power switch below the power cable input to the on (1) position. The switch should illuminate to indicate AC power. If the switch does not illuminate, push the power switch to the off (0) position. Check that you have power at the wall, you are using the correct power cable, and it is fully inserted into the power input receptacle. Check that the input voltage selector is set to the correct value for the AC supply.
A few seconds after successful power on, the white input active LED should illuminate. Turn the master volume to around 9 o’ clock and begin playing through your input device. You may then adjust the volume as necessary. If you do not hear audio, check your connections, and your input device.
